For the Holidays December 16

At the Ivoryton Playhouse, take an unexpected blizzard, add a sprinkling of the Nutcracker, a pinch of Dickens’ Christmas Carol, stir in a little romance and festive song, top it all off with holiday magic and you get a new family tradition called Home for the Holidays premiering, Now through the 18th.

In this lineup of heartfelt holiday humor, outlandish playwright Frederick Stroppel offers The Land of Sweets; Ann Patchett recounts a memory of her father in How to Read a Christmas Story; David Sedaris tells a torturous tale of working as an elf in Santaland; Wolcott Gibbs, in the riotous Ring Our Wild Bells, gives a new meaning to the expression ‘with bells on;’ and Matt Hoverman explores the pull between past disasters and present possibilities in his play, Going Home.


Shakesperience Productions performs A Christmas CarolI A Celebration of Our Blessings & Your Generosity at Shakesperience Studio Thursday-Sunday, December 15-18
Charles Dickens’ beloved classic is sung to life by a traveling band of carolers this holiday season at Shakesperience! Ebenezer Scrooge wasn’t always a tight-fisted old miser. On a cold and foggy London evening, he is transported by ghosts to Christmases, past, present, and future. With his wretched future stretched out before him, Scrooge must truly consider the meaning of charity and the Christmas spirit.

The Quick Center at Fairfield University presents Babes in Toyland performed by American Family Theater, Inc. with two performances on December 18
Beginning with the gentle strokes of a music box, "Babes in Toyland" invites audiences to cross a magical border into a land filled with wonderful toys and delicious treats. It's a fairy tale place where everyone is always happy, and the enchanting Goody GumDrop Tree grows.

At Hartford Stage is A Christmas Carol  continuing through December 30!
Hartford Stage brings the magic of Dickens’ heart-warming classic to life in this Connecticut holiday tradition! The tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, the heartless miser who discovers the true meaning of the holiday season after a Christmas Eve haunting, features all of Charles Dickens’ beloved characters: Tiny Tim, Bob Cratchit and the Spirits of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. Ghosts take flight and soar across the stage, carols are sung and snow falls capturing the spirit of a Victorian Christmas forever warming the hearts of adults and children alike.

At the Ridgefield Playhouse is The Nutcracker December 17 and 18
Presented by The Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance. Join Marie as she dreams of Sugar Plum Fairies, dancing Snowflakes and a battle between the evil Mouse Queen and her beloved Nutcracker Prince. The Nutcracker captures all the wonder and child-like joy of the season with exquisite costumes and dazzling choreography performed by The Ridgefield Conservatory of Dance.

The God Who I Can Touch, an Original Musical at Faith Church of New Milford, plays one weekend only, Dec. 17 & 18.
A Broadway-style musical which takes place in a mall on Christmas Eve minutes before closing. Various mall workers with their own hurts & stories share their desire for a touch from God during the Christmas season.

At The Palace Danbury is A Christmas Carol with two shows on Saturday, December 17th
The classic Dickens tale, reborn by this Pied Piper Youth Theater production. In this rare departure for a Pied Piper production, adults are playing most major roles.

At The Three Oaks at Capellaro’s Grove through December 23 is The Christmas Party, produced by Steppin’ Out Entertainment.
This is the 26th Annual Christmas Theatre Banquet, a festive four course lunch or dinner served between the acts of an original holiday musical. This year’s show will bring you joy, laughter and is guaranteed to put you in the Holiday spirit.

On Friday, December 31st it is First Night Danbury!, Beginning at 4:00 all over Downtown!
